What is Air Premia?

I recently had the pleasure of flying with Air Premia, which is considered to be the world’s first hybrid airline. Despite following a low cost business model, Air Premia managed to maintain the majority of services offered by traditional airlines like Korean Air.

I must say, I was thoroughly impressed with my experience on Air Premia’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The Boeing 787 HL8387 is dry leased from Air Air Lease Corporation and was delivered in 2021 for the airline’s inaugural flight.

Overall, the flight was fantastic and the services provided were top-notch.

How To Book

To book a flight on Air Premia, click on the link provided. American and Korean credit cards are accepted by Air Premia. Please ensure you review all details before submitting your booking.

As you can see, Air Premia currently flies to Europe, Asia, and North America on limited routes. One advantage of flying on Air Premia is that you can will still get to your destination while paying a much lower fare. However, you still get a meal included in the overall cost (sometimes 2 meals depending on the distance).

Let’s Begin our Experience

1. Incheon Airport

Our flight begins at Incheon Airport Terminal 1. Counter J is where you can checkin and send your bags through. There are two check in lines: economy and premium economy. Make sure to get into the right line or else you will be waiting for a while.

Air Premia does have a loyalty program that starts with Blue Status and goes up to Diamond. Interestingly, there is no dedicated line for Diamond status members at Incheon.

This flight departed at 8:40pm so we had plenty of time to use the priority pass lounge in T1.

2. Priority Pass Lounge

Incheon Terminal 1 operates 2 priority pass lounges that are not connected to Asiana. We used the Matina Lounge this time which offered light refreshments, alcoholic drinks, and warm food.

Thankfully, Air Premia departs from Terminal 1 as its hub which means you have access to all of the lounges not found in the satellite terminal.

Onboard Experience

1. Boeing 787 Dreamliner Basics

Air Premia currently operates several Boeing 787 Dreamliners in its fleet. With a capacity to carry 309 passengers, HL8387 can carry 253 in economy and 56 in premium economy. As a reminder, the 787s are built for long range travel and are some of the most advanced aircrafts in operation.

The windows feature photogels that regulate the amount of light entering instead of traditional window shades. Furthermore, the lavatory is equipped with hands-free sensors for flushing and hand washing. IFE wise, the monitors are well lit, touch screen capable, and around 12 inches.

2. Food

At Air Premia, you have the option to select between Western cuisine or Korean dishes. The Western meal consists of pasta while the Korean meal includes rice with spicy pork. Air Premia partners with Standard Aviation K for its catering services.

Additionally, both meals came with a refreshing shrimp salad. I found that the meals served by Air Premia were delicious and had excellent flavor profiles.

Air Premia’s catering service focused on providing an ample amount of food while keeping the overall dish refreshing. However, there are no “extras” like fruits or desserts.

3. IFE

It is worth noting that for our flight, the In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) system only featured Korean movies and shows. Therefore, it is recommended that passengers download any preferred music or movies onto their mobile devices prior to boarding.

This is something that Air Premia hopefully fixes when catering to foreign passengers.

4. Non-complimentary Snacks and Drinks

You have the option to order drinks and snacks, but they come at an additional cost. This is how the hybrid airline keeps their prices low. During our flight on Air Premia, we paid $6 USD for a glass of white wine, which was of decent quality.

Other snacks and drinks available for purchase include beer, carbonated drinks, coffee, and other light snacks.

5. Seat Pitch Review

Finally, Air Premia’s economy class had 35 inches of pitch, which was one of the largest in the industry. The adjustable headrests allowed for a comfortable nap, although I personally did not nap for very long.

This is important to consider because many traditional carriers actually offer less legroom than Air Premia. If you are on a long haul flight like USA to Seoul, this will make your flight very comfortable.

As someone who is not too tall, I was able to spread my legs out and nap comfortably in recline. Overall, our flight with Air Premia was very comfortable.

6. Wifi

There is wifi but that is an additional fee like most airlines. I paid for the premium wifi package which was $46 in order to finish some work and watch one epside of House of the Dragon.

Overall

I had a wonderful flight experience with Air Premia. The flight attendants were exceptionally friendly and provided me with great assistance, even helping me with my wifi issues and granting me free internet access for a period of time. I am definitely looking forward to flying with Air Premia again.
